Practical answers

Frequently asked questions

Why is bleed added twice to each dimension?

Bleed extends beyond both opposite edges. A 3 mm bleed adds 3 mm left and right to width, and 3 mm top and bottom to height.

Is 3 mm bleed always correct?

No. It is a common starting point for some printed work, but packaging suppliers may specify a different value.

Is bleed the same as a safe area?

No. Bleed extends outside the trim line. A safe area keeps important content inside the trim line and away from cutting or folding tolerances.
